This page answers the key Totem Fusion questions: the cheapest way to change a Level 5 skill, the fastest/cheapest path to reach Level 5 from lower levels, when to use Crystallised Might (and on which skills), the best skill for each totem, and the most efficient CoW-trophy→catalyst conversion. We start at Level 5 and work down as lower levels strategy depends on higher levels spending plan.

At Level 5, the cheapest way to change the skill to your desired Level 5 skill is at spend 10 Catalyst per attempt — average catalyst cost: 135 for Primal and 156 for Elemental. See the last two rows for other spends.

Level 4

Assumption for this table: if you reach Level 5 with an undesired skill, you will then change it to your desired Level 5 skill spending 10 Catalyst per attempt (the cheapest average catalyst cost per the Level 5 table).

At Level 3, to reach to the desired Level 5 skill the cheapest average is spend 100 (avg 2138 catalysts to reach Level 5).
If you want to reach Level 4 skill and then use Crystallised Might, spending 10 is more effiecient. On average it will take 624 catalysts to reach Level 4 or 5 skill.

Level 2

At Level 0, the cheapest average to reach the desired Level 5 skill is spend 100 for both Primal and Elemental skill (2158 catalysts).
If you plan to stop at Level 4 and use Crystallised Might, spend 100 is also cheapest (755 catalysts).

Catalyst Spending Strategy Summary

Changing a Level 5 skill: Spend 10 Catalyst per attempt; cheapest average cost — Primal 135, Elemental 156.
Getting to Level 5 from lower levels: At Level 0 to 4 the cheapest path to Level 5 is spending 100 Catalyst.
Crystallised Might: Guarantees the selected skill and upgrades it by one level. Since Elemental Catalyst is rarer/more expensive, the most efficient use of Crystallised Might is on Level 4 Elemental skill. Spend 100 Catalyst at Levels 0/1/2 and spend 10 at Level 3 to hit Levels 4 fastest, then use Crystallised Might.

Note: at Level 0 the difference between spending 10 and the optimal 100 is negligible. At Levels 1 and 4, spending 10 is also close to optimal. If collecting 100 catalysts takes too long, spending 10 at these levels is reasonable.

Disclaimer: All calculations assume the in-game “Random skill” chance is the chance of getting any other skill than the selected (desired) one. If instead “Random” can also land on the selected skill, the numbers shift slightly, especially at Levels 4 and 5, but the best Catalyst spending strategy above remains the same.

Important: skills do not stack. If two totems have the same skill, only one will activate in a battle. To get the most value, assign different skills across your totems.

Best way to convert CoW Trophy → Primal Catalyst

Best value: buy the Rare (Blue) Gift of the Dominion and convert it to catalysts. If possible, convert any other Gifts of the Dominion back to CoW trophies and purchase the Rare Gift of the Dominion instead.
